Reflection

I was always a curious girl since I was little and a very sick one too. Sometimes my curiosity would get me in trouble but I never thought it would lead to this. I’ve never been outside, not because of my sickness.  It's because of my face, I was "not normal" as my mom would say. I would always find the answer to everything I asked myself except one question. I wonder what was behind the door? I just had to do it, I had to go outside to say hi to the passing girls but when they saw me they screamed. It was a rainy day and I saw a puddle I looked down and saw my reflection for the first time ever.

  1. Mai,
Thank you for your piece. The narrator reminded me a bit of Auggie from Palacio's Wonder. Are you familiar with that author's work?
    Keep writing.

The Story Of Daniela, The Rock

The Story Of My Life That’s me, Daniela, the rock.  Hhhhiiii! Chapter 1 I was shot out of a volcano in Hawaii and my tip was broken off when I landed. I have been living in the volcano forever as a rock until I turned into something scientists call magma. Apparently, there was too much of us and then Mt. Mauna Loa lost her temper and blew up! When she erupted, I flew into the sky, and it was a very nice view. But then I hardened which, BTW, is not fun. I was enjoying my perfectly good view when I suddenly could not move. Like, I just stayed in place. There a lot of, what do you call it, humans? They were running around and screaming. I was like, chill. Everything is fine. Mt. Mauna Loa is just having a bad day, but do they listen? No, but I gotta give them some slack. Speaking Rockenese (The language of Rocks) is very hard so they probably didn’t understand much.        Chapter 2 I wasn’t alone for long because all of my annoying cou...

Summer Wish

I barely go outside during the summer, it’s a fact. My mom is too busy with work and I’m stuck inside. When I do go outside it’s like the best feeling ever, The hot air is filled with kids sweat and laughter. The cool air blows against my pale face as I look at kids around me. Then I go back inside And watch the window like it’s a television show that I can’t tear my face from the screen. Their tall long tan legs, It looks like the legs have been kissed by the sun gods as a blessing. Then, I look down at my tiny pale legs. I look at my reflection of myself out the window, Filled with disappointment and hate, I turn and stare at my book hard Wishing upon a star that I could go outside To the beach, pool, forest anywhere that has a Sun shining above me. But it's the middle of the day there is only one star out, And it's far from granting my wish. I think again, There's always next summer. (This is not a true story :)
