The Story Of My Life
That’s me, Daniela, the rock. Hhhhiiii!
Chapter 1
I was shot out of a volcano in Hawaii and my tip was broken off when I landed. I have been living in the volcano forever as a rock until I turned into something scientists call magma. Apparently, there was too much of us and then Mt. Mauna Loa lost her temper and blew up! When she erupted, I flew into the sky, and it was a very nice view. But then I hardened which, BTW, is not fun. I was enjoying my perfectly good view when I suddenly could not move. Like, I just stayed in place. There a lot of, what do you call it, humans? They were running around and screaming. I was like, chill. Everything is fine. Mt. Mauna Loa is just having a bad day, but do they listen? No, but I gotta give them some slack. Speaking Rockenese (The language of Rocks) is very hard so they probably didn’t understand much.
Chapter 2
I wasn’t alone for long because all of my annoying cousins came dropping in, as you can see in the picture, my cousins are photobombing my beautiful picture. Anyway, we were waiting there forever until all of my cousins came out (They’re really slow). Finally, Mt. Mauna Loa stopped her tantrum (Thank god!) and then humans suddenly appear. Like, millions of them all at once, and let me tell you, they kept stepping on us like we’re what? Dirt! It didn’t hurt that much, but it sure did rub some of my skin off though no one would notice, except me. Sorry, I never got myself properly introduced, I am Daniela Babalu. I am a basalt, a type of volcanic rock (At least that’s what the scientists said, and you don’t ever want to mess with them). I might not look like what scientists describe but I have aged over the years and HAVE BEEN STEPPED ON A LOT!! Rain, wind, and people have been chipping away at me over the years. That picture you caught of me is when I was partially young and still very good looking (As always).
Chapter 3
Ok, so back to what I was saying, about not being alone. As I said, millions of people and what I mean is people who live here and people with strange little things that they take recordings and pictures,
That’s called a camera, Daniela. That’s how people started paying attention to us (Finally, some respect around here) and then I heard a Click! And a flash of white light and that’s how I got my picture, but of course, I was covered with a little bit of ash. You are probably wondering why I can write (Which I can’t) but this girl is doing a report on a rock’s life so I offered. The author’s name is Mai Hoang, luckily, she can speak a little Rockenese. Ok, sorry, getting a bit off track, so then these people with serious (Sorta) faces showed up and started picking up some of my cousins and putting them in this plastic bag (I honestly don’t miss them, they’re probably having the time of their lives). The men in the sorta serious faces never got me. That’s how fast I was (I was just yanking your chain, they never even saw me).
Chapter 4
I stayed there like forever and sometimes hoped that I could climb back in Mt. Mauna Loa, then listening to my cousins talk for eternity. There was an earthquake or was it a seismic wave, IDK? Anyway, we got moved to the ocean🌊. It was a very pretty view, except the tide kept coming over me and taking little parts of me in the ocean until I became smaller and smaller. Now I will hand the microphone to my author (before I start talking about how that water was bullying me), Mai Hoang. (You might have heard her talk before about that thing that flashed in my face was a camera). The change is what we now call water erosion and deposition, the water is taking a little piece of my rock and putting it somewhere new. In this case, the ocean. Ok, so I think we will just do the back and forth thing cause I don’t know squat about Science. So the water was not the only thing bullying me it was the wind too, except it had gone a little bit easier on me. So, one windy day, I was just minding my own business, when I felt something take another part of me. I’m like, are you serious?... Ok, so I’m going to explain it from here. What she is explaining again, is deposition but this time it’s wind erosion that she was talking about. I must add one thing so that Mr.Chisholm would give me credit, seismic waves are the energy that travels through the earth. Some people (Daniela) can’t tell them apart but usually seismic is like a roll beneath the earth and an earthquake; it shakes the ground beneath you.
Chapter 5
Ok, so I have this question in my mind for you. Mai, how did Mt. Mauna Loa form? Well, that is an easy question (not for everyone). It all started with the famous tectonic plates, my science class has been talking about them. The forces are already pushing them against each other and this causes them to go in an upward position which pushes earth to make a mountain. Oh, ok, I get it. Now but does it happen all at once? Or does this take time? Cause I have no patience at all.

Yes, we can all see that.
Hey!!
But yes it takes a long time for a mountain to form. It’s not like you can just go walking and then suddenly a mountain springs up right in front of you and…
Ok! Ok! we get it Miss Know-it-all (aww, thanks) but let’s go back to me. Do you know (from your knowledge) what’s going to happen to me?
Chapter 6
Oh, ok so what I’m going to talk about next is called the rock cycle. It mostly happens underground. So when you began in your early life, (Hey are you calling me old?!) you were actually a metamorphic rock. Then Mt. Mauna Loa melted you into something called…
Magma!! Oh my gosh, I feel so smart already! Yes, magma then you were shot out of the volcano (Please take me back to Mt. Mauna Loa! I never did anything wrong… Well) and then you… And then I harden, right? Yes, but another word for it, is crystallization (oh, scientists and their fancy words), and now you are an igneous rock.
That’s not a very good name I prefer something cuter.
Science is not based on cuteness (It should be). Ok, so that’s what you are right now, but let’s dig deeper into the future. Now you’re going through something called… Bullying! No, now would you please stop interrupting! Fine, thank you (you’re welcome) so you are NOT going through “bullying” right now, it’s something called weathering, erosion and deposition. This means that the elements are taking little pieces of you and dropping them off somewhere.
Oh, ok, so that makes a lot more sense, but can I just say something real quick? (Sigh) Fine, so that’s basically bullying, OMG!! It is not… (Calm yourself down Mai, you will not lose a good grade to this rock) Yes, I guess you can call it “bullying”.
Chapter 7
Ok, so that was all for my presentation. Thank you for listening to both of us (even though Daniela is really annoying).
Ok, so enough of the chit chat I hope that you give Mai an A+ on her story about yours truly. Please don’t pay attention to Daniela, she really wants people to pay more attention to her, this was her only way of doing so. I have gone on a vacation in Hawaii and all of her cousins didn’t want to do the report on themselves (Because they’re actually nice). She was my only option, sorry about that. Next time I’ll choose more wisely about who I’m working with.
Ok, so BIG News!! I’m moving in with the Hoang’s… Yay, am I right?
First of all, no, yay, only a boo, but my mom did say that she could move in. I guess we’re roomies, but you will have to share with my little sis. Ok now, thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Mai Hoang+Daniela Babalua
P.S she insisted on her name being bigger.
P.S.S The bigger the better, that’s what I say.
