Vietnamese Holidays
In Vietnam, people celebrate a lot of holidays but to me, these are my favorite holidays.
Tet is the Vietnamese New Year. It’s the same time with Chinese New Year on the lunar calendar. Tet is a holiday is to express there respect to the ancestor that came before them and to welcome the new year. Moreover in the past, Tet was essential as it provide one of few long breaks between the harvesting of the crops and sowing of the next one. We can imagine Tet as a combination of Christmas and New Year: every family will get together to have big meals, decorate Tet trees and eat Tet food but to welcome the new year.
In an effort to get rid of the bad luck from the old year, people spend a few days cleaning and decorating the house with colorful flowers and five kind of fruit.
The Vietnamese believe the color Red and Yellow will bring them a good fortune so you will see a lot of those colors around Tet time. Everybody, especially children buy new clothes on the first day of Tet.
I got named after this flower!! This is one of the flowers on the Tet holiday.
